Not necessarily the lack thereof but the lack of belief behind the prayer.
I recently found myself praying with a suggestive tone instead of confidence. I would step to the throne with this, "Umm if you don't mind can you umm do this for me please" attitude. There was no love, no boldness, and even worse no faith.
In Scripture, Jesus says to the disciples, Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
Mark 11:24 NIV
Not sure when or why I lost my confidence in Him, but I did.
I was just going through the motions. Praying because I was "supposed to" not because I needed to.
Sometimes, I believe us Christians fall for the idea that prayer is for God and not for us. We don't pray to make Him best, we pray to make us best.
We pray to connect with our Creator and ask for the things we want and need here on earth.
And when we ask, we ought to believe that we have received it; not because our prayers are topnotch, or because they take precedence over someone else's but because Jesus said so.
You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!
John 14:13-14 NLT
Do you see that? Right there in red letters. ;)
There is no need to believe that our prayers aren't getting heard or that Jesus isn't eager to answer them.
He said he will do it to bring glory to the Father! 🤗😭
If you find yourself losing confidence like me, just remember those two verses.
Not only have we been given permission to ask, but we've also been given the confidence and instruction to believe it's already ours! I don't know about you, but that just makes me want to dance. Thank God for Jesus!!!
